Emergency Dentistry Services

Dental emergencies are defined as issues that affect the teeth, gum, and the surrounding tissues. Although many dental emergencies are caused by bacteria and fungal infections, dental restorations and fractures are also classified as an emergency and shouldn’t be taken lightly. These dental problems occur differently; some cause pain while others do not.

Common Dental Emergencies

At Signature Smiles Dentistry, we treat a variety of emergency dental conditions including the following.

Tooth extraction

Tooth extraction is one of the emergency dental services we provide. It is sometimes done for a variety of reasons such as decayed and impacted teeth. When the wisdom teeth don’t emerge fully through the gum, they can become entrapped underneath the gum and need to be pulled out. Fractured and damaged teeth usually need to be extracted. If you notice severe pain either due to impacted or fractured teeth, call us for emergency dental care with Dr. Pariana.

Toothache

Toothache is pain usually around the jaw and teeth can be caused by decay, abscess, fracture, and infected gum. The symptoms of a toothache may include some pain and swelling. These symptoms can be managed at home, but come for a dental examination if the pain lasts for more than two days. Regular dental assessment is important as it will help us identify infections and prevent it from spreading to other parts to the skill or head.

Broken teeth

The teeth are strong, but they can break or fracture due to accidents, cavities (weakens the teeth) and biting down hard stuff. Minor teeth fractures don’t cause pain, but if a large part comes off you may experience some pain or nerve sensitivity. If you have severe pain or bleeding, get emergency treatment right away from Dr. Pariana.

Additionally, rinse the mouth with warm water and apply pressure to stop bleeding. Using an ice pack can also help reduce some swelling. If you have a dislodged tooth, try to hold it by the crown and fix it back to the socket. Don’t pull the tooth, only the dentist can determine if the tooth will need to be extracted or not.

Injured soft tissues

Soft tissues in the lips, tongue, or cheeks get injured due to accidental biting, a fall or some other accident. You may experience pain in the first few hours, fever and swelling in the lymph nodes.

These soft tissues are prone to infections so you need them checked out by Dr. Pariana. Try to reduce the risk of infection by rinsing your mouth with saltwater, applying pressure to stop bleeding, and use ice to reduce swelling, if these don’t work, come and see Dr. Pariana.

Broken jaws

Temporomandibular Joints can get dislocated or fractured due to physical injury to the face, sports injuries, accidents, and falls. A broken jaw can cause pain, swelling, bleeding, discomfort, stiffness, and numbness in the face.

Various treatments can help address these TMJ dislocation symptoms. However, call 911 if you have severe bleeding or difficulty breathing. Don’t try to realign the jaw, and keep it immobilized. Seek help as soon as possible.

Orthodontic emergencies

Orthodontic emergencies refer to the loss or loosening of orthodontic appliances which causes pain. Various restorative dental treatments such as veneers, bridges, crowns, or braces can crack or loosen and should be checked by Dr. Pariana.

Remember veneers and bridges cover your natural teeth, which have been trimmed off. When exposed, the teeth can become extremely sensitive and lead to infections.

Other orthodontic emergencies include pain after brace adjustment. During your regular orthodontic visit, your wiring will be adjusted which can result in irritation of the lips and cheeks and protruding wire.
